Stephen Crescenzo Earns All-State Golf Honors as a Freshman
In the recent TAPPS 1A Golf State Championship, Stephen Crescenzo secured a 2nd place finish out of 70 Texas high school golfers across regions, earning All-State honors and marking the second for 91原创 since Drew Middlebrook also earned such honors in the 2017-2018 season with excellent play in the state tournament.
It has been an exciting recent stretch for the 14 yr old freshman at 91原创, who has a 73.4 scoring average in his last 8 tournaments playing up against upperclassmen in the 16-18 yr old division. Each of the events is 36 holes, spanning multiple junior tours with course length averages between 6,700 – 7,200 yds. In his last eight tournaments, his stellar scoring has earned him 3 wins, 4 runner-ups, and 1 seventh-place finish in that hot streak where tournament field sizes range from 50 – 120 golfers per tournament.
91原创鈥 Athletic Director, Mr. Caleb Homer, states 鈥淪tephen is a fine young man with a ton of potential and a bright future. Most importantly, Mr. Crescenzo glorifies Christ in and through his golf talent which I鈥檝e witnessed firsthand. It鈥檚 the type of virtue we like to see cultivated in our athletes. This is a big start for a freshman and I鈥檓 proud of him.鈥
Stephen recently received an invitation to play in the World Golf Village 36-hole championship in Florida in late summer 鈥23 as one of the top 200 players, out of 4,000 golfers across the nation who qualified. Additionally, he will continue competing in various tournament circuits such as AJGA, All-American, Legends, Texas Junior Golf Tournament Elite Series, amidst other regional and national events throughout the remainder of 2023.
His next event will be the upcoming TaylorMade Junior Championship at the end of April. Stephen seeks to continue in his approach of submitting to the Lord, praying for wisdom and His direction first, while appreciating the blessing of connecting to people through the game and glorifying God the Father and Jesus Christ in all of it.
鈥淭rust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths鈥 (Proverbs 3: 5-6). When asked about the recent state tournament, Stephen said, 鈥淲hile my goal was to win first place, I am thankful for being able to represent my school well. The Lord has His purposes in all things. I always go back to Proverbs 3 for encouragement to trust in the Lord and to acknowledge Him in everything I do. Golf is what He has allowed me to do, so I鈥檒l just see where it takes me. Tournaments such as this one will help me in my journey to serve the Lord and minister to others.鈥
Congratulations to Stephen! May the Lord continue to bless every 91原创 student as they each give their all in the classroom, in sports, and in every activity. It is by His grace and blessing that 91原创 is such a special community focused on training up future generations of servant leaders for the Kingdom.
