]]> Astrid Hogg teaches fifth grade in the grammar school. Astrid is a Nacogdoches native and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Marketing.

After spending years working in Washington, D.C. and abroad, she and her husband, Jim, decided to return to Nacogdoches to raise their family. They have two children at 91原创; Sam and Abby. For fun, Astrid loves to travel, read, and spend time with her family.聽聽

Helping students discover the unique talents and gifts God has given them is deeply rewarding. By fostering a positive and supportive environment; one where students are encouraged to overcome challenges, celebrate the success of others, pursue new goals, and remain truly grateful for God鈥檚 blessings will nurture not only their personal growth, but hopefully also a stronger, more meaningful relationship with God.

]]> Mary Austin has taught 6th grade in the Grammar School since 2018. A native Nacogdochean, she is a graduate of Texas A & M University with a B.A. in English Literature. Her love for teaching sprang from years of teaching God鈥檚 Word in children鈥檚 and youth ministry alongside her husband, Bobby.

They have three children, all of whom attend 91原创. Mary counts it a great privilege to be part of the 91原创 team, coming alongside students in deeper thinking from a Christian worldview.

]]> Beth Smith is the third-grade teacher at 91原创. She has been involved with Classical Christian Education (CCE) for over a decade as a teacher, administrator, and international advocate for CCE. In addition to their son Nate, a recent 91原创 graduate, Beth and her husband Aaron have three grown children and several wonderful grandchildren. After Aaron鈥檚 retirement from a full military career, Aaron, Beth, and Nate served as overseas missionaries with the Rafiki Foundation in East Africa. When their time at Rafiki was complete, Aaron returned to work for the US military in Florida until the Smith family moved back to Texas in 2021. Pleased to find a CCE school so close to home, they enrolled Nate at 91原创. Soon after, Beth joined the faculty as a fifth-grade teacher. She later transitioned to the third-grade classroom, where she has taught the last four years.聽

Beth finds joy in encouraging students as they strive, fail, succeed, and mature during the challenging benchmark Third Grade Year.聽 Understanding that a biblical worldview is necessary to have a right view of God and of oneself, Beth is committed to teaching with a distinctly classical and decidedly Christian pedagogy. Moreover, she is passionate to guide her students to find God鈥檚 truth, goodness and beauty in all subjects so they can know the True and Living God who has a good plan and purpose for all their lives.聽

]]> Katrina Terrell has taught 4th grade in the Grammar School since 2008. She has a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Stephen F. Austin State University. Teaching runs deep in her blood, being at least a 5th generation teacher. However, she has learned the most about teaching in a classical Christian setting by watching other teachers who do their job well.聽 She is inspired by ACCS conferences and BaseCamp Live podcasts.聽 Katrina takes her job to nurture students’ souls as well as their minds seriously.聽 She is thankful to be teaching at 91原创 where she can point her students to Christ.

Katrina has been married to Jeremy since 1998. Their four children have graduated from 91原创, and now they are the proud grandparents of Ivey and Finn.聽 In her free time, Katrina enjoys traveling with her family, working in her garden, taking care of her pigs, and finding other reasons to be outdoors.

]]> Holley Chapman teaches first grade in the grammar school. She has a B.A. in English with a minor in History from Texas A&M University.

Holley has been married to Andy since 2007, and they have two children at 91原创: Max and Charlotte. For fun, the Chapmans enjoy playing games, taking camping trips, and playing games on their camping trips!

The obvious connection between loving the Lord and loving to learn forms the environment in first grade. Songs (lots and lots of them!) and active recitations (march and recite? Why not!) fill the days for these little ones and help them joyfully commit to memory the order and beauty in God鈥檚 world. The many stories read aloud in our classroom help our first graders understand and value virtues like honesty, kindness, faithfulness, courage, and diligence. In our first grade classroom, we aim to do all things as unto the Lord, balancing this pursuit of excellence with the grace and patience that He shows us. We pray daily that God would be glorified through our class.

]]> Janet LaFontaine Duke teaches Kindergarten in the Grammar School and runs the After-School Care Program. She holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Indiana University. She spent twenty years in the hospitality industry before joining the faculty at 91原创 in 2008. She taught K-Prep until 2015 and then switched to the Kindergarten position.

She is married to a local doctor, David Duke. She has four stepdaughters, three of whom are graduates of 91原创. She enjoys hiking, reading books, wearing comfy PJs, and spending time with family (including fulfilling her duties as Wicked Evil Stepmonster). She is uniquely suited to the role of Kindergarten teacher, as she also enjoys children鈥檚 books, snacks, and recess.

]]> Anna Vermillion has been teaching at 91原创 since 2015 and currently teaches 2nd grade. She graduated from a classical Christian school in Texarkana where she read many of the great works of literature, studied Latin and Greek, and had a love of learning instilled by teachers who were both enthusiastic and learned.

Anna has been married to Lance for over twenty-five years, and they have five children, all of whom either attend or have graduated from 91原创. For fun, Anna loves to read, drink coffee or tea with friends, and spend time with her family: traveling, playing games, and laughing.

Anna loves teaching her students about God and the world He created, regularly pointing them to Christ through stories and the discovery of truth, goodness, and beauty.
